Trafalgar Park Lighting Upgrade
Commercial Electrical
GRE Services was awarded the main electrical contract for the Trafalgar Park Lighting Upgrade, a landmark central-city project that transformed Nelson’s premier sporting venue. Designed to improve stadium visibility, safety, and event capability, the upgrade required extensive electrical infrastructure work and precise coordination across multiple construction phases.
At the heart of the project was the installation of eight new 30-metre lighting towers, each fitted with twenty-four high-powered 2kW floodlights. These professional-grade stadium lights provide exceptional illumination for major sporting fixtures, evening training sessions, and televised events. To support the increased demand, the park’s main power transformer was also upgraded, ensuring a robust and reliable electrical supply now and into the future. GRE Services additionally installed a bespoke lighting control system, giving Nelson City Council the ability to manage multiple lighting levels for various modes, from training through to full stadium events.
The lighting upgrade formed part of a wider redevelopment programme that included new toilet blocks, new ticket entrance buildings, a modern Media Suite, and surrounding landscape and amenity lighting. GRE Services delivered all components of the project on time, within budget, and to a standard that reflects the importance of Trafalgar Park as one of the region’s key public facilities.
High-performance sports lighting, resilient infrastructure, and expert electrical delivery — illuminating Nelson’s premier stadium for years to come.
